#Day 480: The Kind Of Boy

He was the kind of boy little girls are warned about. The kind of boy my mother told me to stay away from. The kind of boy your father peers at from the window when you walk by.

He was the kind of boy who bought you purple carnations on your first date and red roses the next. The kind who could birth butterflies and daydreams by turning and looking at you. The boy who wore snap backs and chinos to high school and rode his skater board. The kind who picked you up in a limo wearing a bow tie for prom.

He was the kind of boy who bought you 50 balloons on your anniversary. He was the kind of boy who cried the first time he thought he could lose you someday. He was the boy who went down on his knees after your first fight; the boy who pulled out a candy cane ring. The boy who two years later pulled out a replica of that ring, set in diamond.

He was the kind of boy who drove a Bullet with you clinging to him. The kind of boy who rolled into clubs with you on his arm. The kind of boy who showed you off.

He was the kind of boy who cried when you told him he was gonna have a child. He was the kind of boy who took a year’s leave off of work to spend time with you. The kind of boy who spoiled his daughter rotten. The kind of boy who loved his ladies.

He was the kind of boy who broke your heart when he saw ‘her’ for the first time. The boy who found new candy when he went shopping. He was the kind of boy who walked out on you and your children leaving you no answer. He was the kind of boy called you drunk and told you he’d lost her and wanted you back. He was the kind of boy who came home drunk after everything one night and hit you for the first time.

You were not that kind of girl. But he was that kind of boy. The kind of boy little girls are warned about. The kind of boy who saves you from the depths of despair, to dig it deeper and bury you in them.

He was the kind of boy you will warn your little girl about.
